Founded in 1933, the IRC is a leading nonsectarian, voluntary organization providing relief, protection and resettlement services for refugees and victims of oppression or violent conflict.  One aspect of the IRC is to provide assistance to refugees resettling in the United States.  The IRC opened an office in Garden City, KS in the fall of 2014 to provide reception and placement services to newly arrived refugees, as well as integration services to refugees moving to Garden City and surrounding communities for employment and other opportunities that the area has to offer.  The office has a target to resettle approximately 120 refugees annually.  The IRC in Garden City is a sub-office of the IRC in Wichita.

SCOPE OF WORK:

The Case Worker provides assistance to refugees and other qualified immigrants to ensure the best possible resettlement experience and the achievement of client self-sufficiency.  The Case Worker develops resettlement and/or self-sufficiency plans to match individual client needs and preferences utilizing a broad range of financial, medical, social, vocational, and other services and resources based on client eligibility. The Case Worker operates under close supervision with moderate latitude for the use of independent judgment and initiative.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

Ensuring the best possible resettlement experience for each client, from pre-arrival preparations and point of entry to successful acculturation. This may include assurance that appropriate pre-arrival services are in place (locating and securing suitable housing, purchasing housing essentials, furniture and basic food supplies, setting up utilities etc).Providing individualized and group orientations and supporting clients through social service referrals, medical access and advocacy services by assessing and evaluating each client’s distinct needs.Independently developing reasonable resettlement and/or self-sufficiency plans and timelines for each client and managing client expectations.Ensuring that clients are provided the basic tools necessary to meet their established short-term goals and objectives.Assessing and monitoring client progress at regular intervals to ensure progress on goals is made, designated resources are maximized; modifying initial resettlement plans and other case file documents as required.Ensuring compliance with case file management and reporting requirements.Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Undergraduate degree preferred in a related field study Social Work or an equivalent field of studyMinimum of 1-2 years relevant work experience in human services field.Demonstrated success working and communicating effectively in a multi-cultural environment.Proven ability to contribute both independently and as a key team member.Self- starter with excellent problem solving skills combined with the proven ability to multi-task, prioritize duties, and manage time effectively.Fluent in English, both spoken and written.Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook)Valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle with current insurance, and the ability to travel regularly throughout the service delivery area including Garden City, Dodge City and Liberal (home visits, agency visits, service provider visits etc).

Logistics Intern

Description

BACKGROUND:  Founded in 1933, the International Rescue Committee (IRC) is a leading non-sectarian, voluntary organization providing relief, protection, and resettlement services for refugees and victims of oppression or violent conflict.  The Suburban Washington Refugee Center, where the IRC’s Silver Spring resettlement office is located, has resettled more than 2,000 new refugee arrivals, providing them a fresh start and opportunities to use their greatest resources—their motivation, their skills and their experiences—to become independent and self-sufficient new Americans.  Currently, the IRC Silver Spring resettles and/or provides assistance to over 700 refugees and asylees each year.

SCOPE OF WORK:  The Logistics Intern is needed to assist the Logistics Specialist at the IRC Silver Spring Office.  The primarily responsibility of the Logistics Specialist is preparing for the arrival of new refugees by assuring safe, sanitary, and furnished housing is secured for each new family.  This position will entail approximately half of the internship in the field and half inside the office.

The IRC in Silver Spring serves refugees, asylees and victims of human trafficking who live in southern Maryland.

SCOPE OF WORK:  The Youth and Women’s Employability Program seeks to welcome youth and women of all different backgrounds by providing a support system, job training and case management. The YWEP Intern (unpaid) would work on case management and employment activities  by assisting beneficiaries to enroll is childcare assistance programs, orienting them to childcare in the US, and facilitating enrollment of children in childcare.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Work one-on-one with refugees and asylees to assist with applications for childcare subsidies/Head Start programmingDevelop relationships and expand network with local childcare providers and community resourcesDevelop resource guide of local childcare providersDevelop orientation materials on childcare in the US and education clients on the system and their rightsAssist families with child care applications and applying for child careComplete all other tasks as designated by the Youth’s and Women’s Employability Program lead

Org. Setting and Reporting

This position is located in the Cashier's Unit of the Financial Services Section of the UN Joint Staff Pension Fund.

The Cashier's Unit is responsible for directing and controlling the Fund's treasury activities, managing the cash flow operations of the Secretariat. The Unit also recommends and coordinates the implementation of periodic and non-recurrent payment systems for worldwide application, including the selection of banks, value dates, manual and electronic payment systems. In addition, the Unit is responsible for establishing methods to interface the electronic payment systems into existing Pension Fund infrastructure.

The incumbent will report to the Chief and Deputy Chief of the Cashier's Unit.

Responsibilities

Within delegated authority, the Treasury Assistant will be responsible for the following duties: 

•Support the Cashier and Deputy Cashier in monitoring contribution from member organizations. 

•Assist in the preparation of monthly/weekly cash forecasts. 
•Perform monthly bank charges analysis for all operation bank accounts 

•Investigate beneficiaries’ claims of non-receipt of payments, delays in payments and bank charges.
•Prepare stop payment requests for cheque and wire payments for Cashier's approval. 
•Void payments and record cancellations in the Fund’s operating system.

•Drafts or prepares correspondence to respond to enquiries with respect to relevant financial matters.
•Download daily balance and transaction information for all operational bank accounts and prepare summary cash position.

•Assist with the processing and mailing of monthly payroll cheques to various pouch destinations. 
•Keep track of cheque stock and assist with the reorder
•Schedule maintenance service calls for cheque printer, and packaging machines
•Performs other duties as may be required.

GENERAL:
